Seeds of Nonviolence
Seeds of Nonviolence collects a wide array of John Dear's
personal, theological and spiritual writings on the journey of nonviolence.
It includes a diary of John Dear's work with the homeless in Washington,
D.C.; reflections on his civil disobedience for disarmament; prayers
and retreat notes; accounts of travels into El Salvador, Nicaragua,
the Philippines and death row, essays on the theological and biblical
roots of nonviolence, and a peacemaking diary kept during the 1991
Persian Gulf war, where John was living in California and organizing
daily protests against the U.S. bombing raids. The foreword by is Bishop
Thomas Gumbleton.
"The whole list of issues is John's. Anyone who reads this journal
collection of experiences, shares in these reflections, and joins in
the prayers that John writes down from his own ever deeper union with
God, will begin to value every person--especially the poorest--as a
uniquely beautiful and sacred image of God."
--from the foreword by Bishop Thomas Gumbleton
